Ask a traveller and the answer comes at once: spring or autumn. Ask a group organiser and the question changes. The real choice is not one month against another, but which part of Morocco suits the month you already have in mind. The country runs from snowy summits to the Atlantic and the Sahara, so almost every week of the year works somewhere.
Spring or autumn: why do they lead?
Because everything is open at once. From March to May and from late September to November, the imperial cities are mild, the High Atlas is green or golden, and the desert nights are cool rather than cold. A circuit can join the four landscapes in the same week without one of them suffering. That is also why these months fill up first.
Month by month, what does a group find?
- January. Bright days, cold nights, and the calmest weeks of the year after the first one. Covered in detail in Winter in Morocco with a group.
- February. Almond trees in flower in the valleys, and the return of European school holidays.
- March. One of the strongest months of the year, explained in Why travel to Morocco in March?
- April. Peak demand around Easter. Green countryside and long days.
- May. Warm and settled, with the rose harvest around Kelaat M'Gouna. Often the best balance of the year.
- June. Heat arrives inland. The coast and the mountains take over.
- July and August. Very hot in Marrakech and the south, often above 40 °C. Essaouira, Agadir and the Atlas villages stay pleasant, and Moroccan families travel too.
- September. Still hot at first, softer from the second half.
- October. A favourite for circuits that include the dunes. See our autumn circuit.
- November. Clear light, shorter days, quieter hotels.
- December. Calm until the festive season, then the busiest fortnight of the year.

Coast, mountains or desert: which one decides?
Start from the highlight the group cannot miss. If it is the desert, aim between October and April, when a night at camp is a pleasure rather than an endurance test. If it is walking in the Atlas, prefer April to October, when paths are clear of snow; a day in the High Atlas shows what a group can do there. The Atlantic coast works all year round, which makes it the natural refuge for a summer group.

Choose the month for the region, or the region for the month: Morocco always leaves one of the two open.
Which dates move every year?
The month of fasting and the two Eid holidays follow the lunar calendar and come about eleven days earlier each year, so they never fall in the same week twice. Easter moves too, and it drives demand from Europe. Add the school holidays of each source market and the large congresses in Marrakech, which can fill hotels for a whole week. An agency that checks these dates before announcing a departure avoids most surprises.
