Marrakech is one of the most requested seminar destinations around the Mediterranean: direct flights from most European capitals, hotels that can take large groups, riads for smaller committees, and the Agafay desert less than an hour away. That popularity has a flip side: the best dates and the best venues go fast. So the real question is not whether it can be done, but when to start.
How far ahead should you book the venue?
This is the decision every other one depends on. Hotels that can host a plenary and sleep the whole group on site are few, and their meeting rooms are often booked six to twelve months ahead for the most requested dates, in spring and autumn. For a small committee in a private riad, three to six months is usually enough, except during European school holidays.
The larger the group, the smaller the margin: from around a hundred participants, the choice quickly narrows to a handful of properties, and the dates become the variable you adjust.
Which season works best for a seminar?
Spring and autumn give the best balance: light, evenings outdoors, activities at any time of day. Summer leaves less room for daytime activities, but some venues are easier to secure. Winter suits indoor work very well, with dinners planned inside.
What should you book first, and in what order?
- The dates, checking the calendar: religious holidays, school holidays in your source markets, major events in the city.
- The main venue and the rooms, which often go together.
- The transfers: airport, dinners, excursions. A group of a hundred means several coaches to coordinate to the minute.
- The dinners and evenings: private restaurants, palaces, camps in the Agafay.
- The activities and the speakers, which fall into place once the rest is set.
How long do permits take?
Some venues and activities need a permit: an evening at a heritage site, fireworks, a drone, the private use of a public space. Allow several weeks, sometimes more, and never treat a permit as granted until it is confirmed in writing.
